Information Unfold collects
Unfold does not require an account and does not include advertising, Google Analytics, or cross-app tracking. Starting with version 1.0 build 9, Unfold uses Google Firebase Crashlytics to diagnose crashes and technical failures. Camera recordings are not uploaded to Firebase or an Unfold server. Earlier builds do not include Firebase crash reporting.
Crash diagnostics
Crashlytics automatically sends crash stack traces, technical errors, app and operating-system versions, device details, and installation/session identifiers to Google Firebase. Its supporting services may also send SDK performance metadata and app session timing. These diagnostics help us find and fix technical problems; they are not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
We attach only coarse technical state, such as whether the app is active, which camera is selected, and whether a recording or export is in progress. We do not attach camera frames, photos, videos, microphone recordings, Photos asset identifiers, local recording filenames, your email address, or a custom user ID.
Firebase retains crash traces and associated installation identifiers for 90 days before beginning removal from live and backup systems. See Firebase’s privacy and security information for its current processing and retention practices. Diagnostic information may be processed outside your country. You can contact us using the address below with privacy questions or requests; because Unfold has no account, we may be unable to identify a particular diagnostic report from an email address alone.
Camera, microphone, and motion
Camera access is used to show the live preview and capture video. Microphone access is used to record sound. If another app or an active call is using the microphone, recording may be unavailable until it is free. The level indicator uses motion information on your iPhone to show the camera’s horizon; Unfold does not send that motion data to a developer service.
Recordings stored on your iPhone
Unfold keeps original camera segments, a finished landscape export, and recovery information in its app storage. The local recording manifest includes details such as recording date, duration, file size, export status, filenames, and—after a successful Photos save—the Photos asset identifier used to avoid saving the same take twice.
If an export or Photos save fails, the app-local recording remains available in Recent recordings for recovery. Unfold does not need an account to keep or play these local copies.
Photos access and iCloud Photos
Unfold can save a finished landscape video to Photos using iOS’s add-only Photos permission. Opening the in-app Photos gallery is a separate action and requests read access then; you can grant limited access to selected items or deny it. The app uses that access to show and play the items you can see in the gallery.
If a selected photo or video is stored in iCloud Photos, Apple’s Photos services may retrieve it according to your iCloud settings. That transfer is handled by Apple, not by an Unfold recording upload. Whether iCloud Photos is enabled is controlled in your iPhone settings.
Sharing and contacting support
When you choose Share, iOS passes the selected recording to the destination you choose. If you email support, your email address and the details or attachments you decide to include are handled by your email provider and used to respond to you. Please share only the information needed to describe the issue.

Keeping or deleting your data
You can delete local takes from Recent recordings. Removing Unfold deletes its app-local recordings and recovery files; a video already saved to Photos remains in Photos until you remove it there. iCloud behavior for Photos items follows your Apple account and device settings.
